The Invasion (and Love) Manual Part I: The Crash Landing and Uncomfortable Cohabitation** Klara Novak, a romance novelist with writer's block and a cynical view of love, has retreated to a picturesque but boring coastal town. One night, while trying to write a passionate love scene she doesn't feel, a bright object crashes near her house. From the wreckage emerges Zorp, an alien from the Galactic Federation. His ship, the "Peace and Harmony Explorer Model 7," has suffered a catastrophic malfunction. Zorp, in his human form (chosen from a catalog of "intelligent species" that includes the octopus and the platypus), is a bundle of nerves and clumsiness. His mission: to evaluate Earth for potential "integration" into the Federation, which is actually a euphemism for a peaceful invasion if humanity doesn't meet certain criteria. His protocol manual is his bible. Klara, at first, believes he's an eccentric guy who's had an accident, or perhaps a very intense method actor. Zorp, desperate for a place to hide and repair his ship, offers himself as her "research assistant" in exchange for shelter, promising to help her with her novel. Klara, skeptical but intrigued by his strange personality and unusual attractiveness, reluctantly accepts. Their cohabitation is a comedic disaster. Zorp constantly misunderstands human customs: he tries to pay with space gems, confuses appliances with sentient beings, and his alien logic clashes with Klara's emotional chaos.
